The ARC creates and provides opportunities to suitable candidates from various disadvantaged backgrounds to develop and promote the existing skills, potential and talent to the ultimate benefit as well as the ARC, agricultural sector and the science and technology sector for economic growth of South Africa.
One of the major factors leading to this project is the scarcity of adequate qualified and skilled natural scientists in the labour market. The development of this capacity, within the category of you agricultural graduates from disadvantaged communities and groups is seen as the most important objective to be achieved through this programme.
Successful applicants are appointed on a fixed term contract basis for the duration of their study programme. The participants are mentored by ARC Senior researchers and candidates are evaluated throughout the programme. Mentorship opportunities as well as vacation work are also offered by the programme and placement on permanent employment as junior researcher. Where possible.
WHO CAN APPLY?
If you are in possession or you are studying towards BSc: BSc (Engineering); BVSc, MSc in Natural Science e.g. Botany, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physiology, Zoology.
PhD candidates must be studying Natural Science e.g. Botany, biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physiology and Zoology, your qualifications are in line with the CSIR's scarce skills areas, emerging research areas or core research focal areas in science, engineering and technology you may be eligible for the ARC Post doctorate.
This special project contributes substantially to the development of young people for future employment within science and technology environment, with mentorship sponsorship, life skills training and stipend.
