South African Plant-Parasitic Nematode Survey (SAPPNS)

Nematology Unit of the ARC- PPRI Biosytematics Division founded the South African Plant-Parasitic Nematode Survey (SAPPNS) in 1987. The aim is to make a comprehensive assessment of the nematode biodiversity resources of South Africa.

The main objectives of the SAPPNS are:

  • to make an inventory of all the plant-parasitic nematodes of South Africa
  • to study the biogeography of these plant-parasitic nematodes
  • to establish an electronic database of these plant-parasitic nematodes at the NCN and
  • to compile distribution maps of each economically important plant-parasitic nematode species.

Distribution of Paratrichodorus spp.                                               Distribution of Trichodorus spp.
