ARC-Grain Crops Institute

 


The ARC-Grain Crops Institute (ARC-GCI) is situated in Potchefstroom in the North-west Province and was established in 1981.

The programme of strategic and need driven research involves cultivar evaluation, crop rotation, plant breeding, improvement of crop quality, weed control, tillage, plant nutrition, water utilisation, plant pathology, entomology and nematology.

The mandate crops of the ARC-GCI include the following staple and high protein food and feeds: maize, sunflower, dry beans, sorghum, groundnut, soybeans, canola and crops of lesser importance such as cowpeas, millets and bambara.
