Management of the Animal National Recording and Improvement System as a National Service that includes:

  • National Recording and Improvement Schemes for beef cattle, dairy animals, small stock, pigs, poultry and game.

  • Recording validation and data editing.

  • Development and implementation of novel and innovative recording and improvement methods.

  • Utilize Genetic- and management information obtained from recording to advice breeders, farmers, producers and any other role players in the National Livestock Industries to be more efficient and to ensure sustainability.

  • Management of the National Database for Animal Recording called the INTERGIS (Integrated Registration and Genetic Information System).

  • Kaonafatso ya Dikgomo (KyD): Expansion of National Animal Recording and Improvement Services to Small-holder Farmers.

Application of the derived technologies such as BLUP (Best Linear Unbiased Prediction) breeding values and indexes for economic production traits result in the genetic improvement of breeding animals as well as improvement of our national livestock herds, not only for South Africa but also in the global arena.
